Hello!

Just about to buy myself a Clarke 160TM and related (mostly free!) welding accessories from weldequip so thought it would be a good idea to join up to the forum!

Have been keen on learning to weld for many many years and now I'm tackling a body restoration of my rusty Nissan it was high about time I got myself some kit and had a go at it.

I can see this forum coming in very handy! Looking forward to bugging everyone with newbie questions.

Just need to find a local Gas supplier now and I should be good to go!

Welcome to the forum grim_d. Good look with the project, looking forward to see how you progress. I too am currently working on a Nissan, what model is it that you are about to tackle?
As for the forum, you could not have come to a better place, if the members help you as much as they have me, (and they will) you will not go far wrong.

Thanks, It's a Pulsar GTI-R, needs new outer & mid sills, rear arches, front floor rails and there a couple holes in the floor need fixing too, as well as a few other patches such as inner wings etc.

I have a thread on Pistonheads if you are a member there too?

What are you working on?

I will do some research.
By the sound of it, your corrosion areas are pretty much the same as mine. I am attempting to finish off a Nissan 300zx twin turbo targa. Hopefully will have her ready for the summer, mind you, i said that last year.

Always been a fan of the 300zx too, see them around occasionally, always with "get me through the mot" repairs on the sills, which is heartbreaking. Do you have a thread or pictures anywhere, I would be interested in seeing it.

I know what you mean about mot repairs, mine had some prior to me taking her off the road. I do have a thread running on here under the title "Thanks everyone" if your description of your pulsar is as you fear, then it may be of some help.

I just found it, crikey!, that's fairly serious, but kudos to you fixing it rather than re-shelling. I'm going to go have a read through the whole lot now.

Heres my thread on pistonheads so far, not a whole lot going on as have not started chopping yet, need to finish the belly pan first.

As you can see though my sills are in a similar shape! I will probably start a thread here when I get to welding that focuses more on the repairs rather than the overall build.

Is that damage from grit on the road? If so i'm just thankful we don't need it in NZ as even my 1973 Mk1 escort has a LOT less rust than your GTI-R.

I wanted a GTI-R back in the day, very nice cars

Most of it will be I imagine, it has been in the country over 10 years, so that is potentially 10 years of winters, I had a UK sunny before this and its metal was in a bad bad way.

There is quite a scene for the GTI-R over in NZ.
