New Member: Broomwade compressor

Hi all, new member here. I acquired a Broomwade compressor as part of my house purchase a few years ago. I've used it a handful of times and would now like to give it a bit of a going over and use it more often. The emergency stop switch doesn't work (as soon as you stop pressing it the motor fires back up!) And I'm not sure the pressure switch works (I've always switched the motor off when I get to about 90 psi) It needs the receiver tank cleaning out, a new inlet air filter, and the filter/regualtor/water separator and hoses all look due for a replacement.
Pictures to follow and any help/advice for a complete novice would be welcomed!

just get a new press switch from eBay around £15......mostly from China.....
buy the next size up...so if ur motor is rated a 1.5HP get a switch for 2HP.....
the switch is the same physical size....
it works for me.....
I have a few small comps around ur size so keep a spare new one......just in case....

If it turns off when you press the red button but restarts when your finger is removed it sounds like the starter is wired wrongly. Also 90 psi is low for a compressor, generally from 100 to 150 psi max.
I would make sure the pressure gauge works correctly, let it run and see when it turns off But don’t let it go over 150 psi.
you could adjust the pressure switch lower to make sure it turns off.
Take some pics of inside the pressure switch and starter.

The centre nut adjusts the pressure and the small screw on the left, I believe, adjusts the hysteresis.

Brilliant. Now working as it should. We'll sort of. It trips off at 90psi and back on at 40. (I'd never dared let it go a over 80 as I've not yet inspected the inside of the receiver) but i let it run last night and its all good. So I think I just need to wind that middle nut in a bit more to increase the pressure at which it auto cuts off?
Next job, install a new retractable air line and research which inline filter I need.

Don't forget to check that the roach is alive, the valve won't open if the roach is dead...

Cleaned the old girl up and have installed a new retractable hose reel. Just got to get a new filter/lubricator now.
