New Inverter Mig's ???

Hi Guys, anyone have any info, pro's n con's on the new Inverter Mig welders, one in particular is made by R Tech.
They are of interest to me as they are minutely adjustable for power, as opposed to power being from 1-6 and nothing in half.

Doh!! just seen the post about these welders and it pretty much answered my question. I'm going to stick with my 140 Transmig for now, unless someone knows a superior machine available new??

It depends how much you want to spend??

In fairness to R-Tech, they have a very good back up service in the UK and they shouldn't be compared to the usual sh*te you can get off Ebay.

We (Lorch) have a Transformer based machine, with a special transformer that comes down too 10 volts, so it welds very low amps, ideal for Car repair work. It has specific Steel, Mig Brazing and Aluminium settings in it, 4 roll drive and its digitally controlled so its almost infinitely variable like an inverter is. Comes also with a power-master torch so all wire/amps/voltage settings can be changed/viewed on the torch handle.

I suspect inverter MIGs will be the way forward. Inverter TIGs seem to be becoming more the norm, and I'm sure MIGs will follow. Early days yet though. My feeling is reliability might be an issue with new inverter MIGs just as it is with new everything else. But give it a few years and I'm sure I'll have one.

Don't worry about courseness of power adjustment. I've never found that to be an issue.

Inverter based migs have been around for about 20 yrs........almost all Pulsed mig machines are Inverter based.

Its only nowadays that Inverters are slowly but surely replacing even basic standard mig technology, mainly because good quality transformers are very expensive to make in comparison.

Thanks guys, sounds like we still have a way to go yet, the manufacturers will still be I feel concentrating on the very lucrative Tig market for time being.
Like the sound Matt, of the Lorch, just how much would I need to spend?. I really do love my Transmig 140, its just so easy , but I feel it may be just to old now.

Matt slightly off topic,but is there any MMA inverter's offering high OVC on the market, I know hot start etc, is supposed to give a characteristic suitable to the rod, however is there any machine that will just punch say a straight 80Vs out?????

Hi Snowy,

We are re-launching our H Series (Small MMA Inverters) that will have CEL function, with an OCV of about 90v, I think you need minium 70-80v for Celulosic.

From memory some of the Fronius Transpocket range can be purchased with CEL function. Not sure about anyone else.

My transpocket has not.....Well when you get the H serries out, You must have ESP to know I was thinking abou cell, rods....

Which Transpocket do you have? I think you can/could get the TP 1500 CEL.

I guessed CEL rods, because theres not too much else you would want that kind of Voltage for

On our 3-Phase Inverters that will be released you can also use them for Arc-Air gouging, thats really demanding of the Inverter.

Its the old 1500....The new version does run cells im sure...
