Hi all, I'm new to this site so go easy. Still learning to mig weld, I'm nearly there just getting a prob when spotting as it keeps getting a burst of gas in spot weld

do you fully open your gas bottle tap when welding? And do you wind your reg out when shutting evertything down?

if you keep the reg open when you open the gas bottle it will give a blast of high pressure that will damage the diaphragm, this is probably what is causing your gas problem. when ever you turn everything off you need to wind the reg out then shut the bottle off. then when opening them again open the bottle first then the reg.

as for pics from a phone, my phone wont let me upload to a website, something to do with the phones software but yours may be different, im sure someone will be along shortly to advise you on that one

As you can see from my log trolley I was able to add pics. After pressing upload file it asked me to choose file and gave me options. As you said in one of your posts it kept switching off, but it finally let me

I dont have a gas problem coming out the nozzle, its just the weld is erupting like a volcano

not sure about that one then, will have to wait for someone with more experience of spot welding to answer that one

sounds like its not clean enough then. maybe youre melting all the way through to the back of the material and theres some rust/paint on the other side? is it an old car by any chance? i think i know what you mean, when the weld pool grows out like a volcano?

the diaphragm gets a blast either way as its the diaphragm that holds the pressure back, you are supposed to turn the gas tap on slowly to prevent damage

it was mentioned in another post that keeping the reg open will cause damage to the diaphragm so i simply transfered that info here.

the diaphragm is in the regulator so if it is damaged the regulator just needs replacing

what do you actually mean its getting a burst of gas in spot weld, if you have a lack of gas problem the welds will be very rough and full of holes

When I make a spot weld, the weld bubbles up to leave a small hole

not your regulator at fault
make sure you have enough gas flow and that you have no draughts blowing the gas away, also make sure your torch is not too far away from the work piece and that your shroud isn't clogged up with spatter

ah i thought you meant you were getting a surge of shielding gas when spot welding. As above make sure you have good gas coverage and clean material
