quick intro quick question. first off great site, ive been learning a bit on here. i learned arc welding, mig welding and some gas welding this past week while in europe. going back to the states thursday hopefully buying a mig. while im still here im practicing some more with a stick welder. im giong to post pictures of my work later, but heres my question.
i have a piece of steel, cut some slits into it with a cutting wheel. im welding them shut now, or trying too. its about 4-5 mm thick id say. whast the best settings and technique for this. i have 3 types of filler rod from thin, thicker, thickest (not sure of the measurements though) and the machine has 3 power settings, its old.
i tried thickest rod and highest power, but i have to keep taking breaks with the duty cycle its at, if i said that right. also not getting the penetration i want. im going to try the middle rod, as i only have so many thin ones left. ill experiment with the different power settings here. whats your recomendations.
