New Garage Roof

Hi All,
the time has come to replace my old [asbestos?] roof which is leaking and sagging,I intend to use the insulated box profile steel stuff to reduce condensation and help with the noise reduction,my question is:--- to support the roof I would like to use the "Z" type purlins, will these type be ok to span 5.6M?,this the shortest span, currently there are timber beams across and they sag by about 4 " in the centre,also what distance should they be apart?thanks in advance

Hello Chris,

whoever is supplying your sheets would be able to advise and probably also supply purlins.

I don't think there is a big problem as these sheets are light for their area.

Span is not a problem,(for teh right Z) spacing is usually about 1.2m centers, but supplier should be able to advise

Your biggest worry is the removal and disposal of the old roof if it is the dreaded "A"

When I took down our old Asbestos guttering, phoned the council and they told me to double bag it and they would collect it FOC!

i replaced my fibre concrete sheets, ok its abestos, with box section and just left the old angle iron up, even bought new J hooks to use with the box section,

rang up my local council, double bag the sheets, and booked in a time slot to dispose of them inside a roll on roll off skip, had to explain how many sheets i had, where the come from, how important it was to double bag em etc,etc,

took about 6 weeks to get a slot though, and the week before i would get a letter telling me where i was to go, i couldn't know the secret location before hand
