new fence against next doors mess what would do

right so ive been putting up a nice new fence , all the houses are ex council so the original boundry is still there with a chainlink fence , my fence is on my side of that obviously

as ive been taking it down a couple of the gardens the other side are complete wild dumps , so much so that one mass of weeds had pushed over the old wooden post

would you do the right thing and just put the fence up nice n neat , or ive got half a mind to hack the old panels into a scruffy barrier and wedge down between the border and new fence to deflect the weeds etc

i have nothing to do with the folk there and at no point did they come out and offer to yank down the mess or anything

if me if there person on the other side is just lazy push it back if elderly or not able to do it wheel chair eg cut it down for them but i would say your going to do it t them or you could get in trouble

afew years ago was speaking to a next door i was saying i was getting a chain saw to cut a few small trees down in the garden she said they where going to pay to take the tree i there front garden as it was getting bigger and was near the house i said no problem its only small you take it to the tip put it in your recycle bin i will chop it down while im doing mine any way i had half a tank left in the chain saw after i finshed and went round the front took it down the husband went mad as he had changed his mind and was going to keep it as it covered the front window for privacy he never said any thing to me but his other half we spoke a few days later did say he was not happy i said im sorry but we did agree that if i did mine i would try to save them money by taking it down for no charge and if he had changed his mind would it not be great to say to me !

theyre able bodied and flush enough to have thier own fence , just wont

im just thining the old fence trimmed down a bit and some plastic stapled on would stop all the ivy and weeds coming through my new panels ...although now theyre slotted posts i guess i can just raise em up now n then and force it all back with a broom

just kinda niggles me that 10 mins and a "hey mate lets trim that mess back" and we could all be neat and tidy but no

Plastic will rot your fence just as quick, better to slather it in fence paint.

i dunno the decent side of me thinks dont stoop to making it look a mess on purpose , but then again why should they look at a smart fence when its a state , i do have some old engine i hope that doesnt get spilled on any weeds

spray the border with roundup kill the lot use genuine creosote on your fence and posts and mix a bit of paraffin and waste engine oil in with it

I note that you have nothing to do with them? Have you fallen out with them? If not then why not just go and have a chat with them? These kind of things have a habit of escalating.

A neighbour down the street from us put a fence up between him and the neighbour over the bottom of the garden. There was an old low stone wall there and he put his fence up a couple of feet inside the wall so he could lift a panel out and go through to maintain it. The neighbour took down the wall and claimed the bit he had left and there was a bit of an argument before the council made the neighbour reinstate the wall and put the access back for him.

I'm sorry Steve but I'm struggling with the fact you you are here asking advise because you don't want to talk to them but you think they should come and talk to you? Surely it's possible they are sitting thinking that someone should have come and talk to them before disturbing a fence line? This is exactly how these situations spiral.

Just have a polite word, say you are putting in a new fence on your side of the boundary fence that is there and you are not going to disturb it. civility costs nothing.

Also take pictures before you start so you can prove where it all was before you built your new fence, try talking to them first but I understand that there are some people you just can't have a civil conversation with.

I've had a long running dispute with a neighbour over a boundary with him claiming the owner before me moved the boundary and now he want his land back, after years of solicitors letters going back and forth it turns out the boundary has been as it currently stands since before my neighbour bought his property, therefore he is a liar who just trying to cause trouble.

Suffice to say we haven't been on speaking terms for years, but that's not a problem as he is a nasty little man who has managed to fall out with everybody else in this village as well.

I did that and it did not mix well.oil came out in streaks.
paraffin did not break it down

You have to be careful here, if you have done everything correctly then keep it that way.

Once you enter their property without their permission you can be found to be guilty of aggravated trespass, criminal offence, if you spray anything onto their property to kill anything you can be found to be guilty of criminal damage or even guilty under environmental pollution depending on what you use, and the list goes on.

However, you can turn it to your advantage, often your local council can help if it is a council house, or your local housing association if it is a housing association house by simply writing to them and complaining about their tenant, send an outline of your case and include SOME pictures but not all of them, and only communicate in writing as this is deemed "your private record of the parties" and if they write something in a letter it becomes your irrefutable proof and they cannot deny it, giving you your written evidence.

If something he is doing (or not doing) is causing damage to your property then you have a claim, you claim your fence is on your property then he is encroaching onto your property and doing criminal damage to your property i.e. your fence, you will have to factor in an allowance for wear and tear and natural environmental conditions such as wind for example.
You can send them a lawful notice giving them a specific time to remedy the problem (lawful remedy) and you have to word it very specifically and give a specific and reasonable time for them to do the work, or engage a contractor to do the work, if nothing is done then you can bring a claim against them (enforcement under common law or lawful remedy) for then doing criminal damage which caused you a loss.

I have the same problem with mine...lol. i find it much more relaxing to just ignore them.

or you could just put a panel up yes it rubs against the grain if you put work in to your garden but depends on the hassel you want

there was a tv program on 6 months ago that a next door had a brambles and weeds and very over grown yes a letter to council asking for it to be sorted did get a reaction but took 3/6 months they came and cleared it and so say charged the tennent (i dont think they ever paid it) and with in year it was well on to its way to over growing again and sure to be in 2 years near as bad

it would be quite easy to quess who did send a letter so the people would know it was you that moaned yes it will damage the post /fence but a post is £10 panel £20 and if fitting your self post and hour job a panel 15 mins with a mate to drop a new one in and even you have said it was an old post they not last for ever

i my self fitted new fence and post all the way down the garden and went halfs with the next door (as this is what they said they all did down the row if things needed doing) 3 years later 2 of the fence post broke off in the high winds we apparenty live in a wind tunnel but in 3 days i got 2 new post and 2 hours later and £25 pound later it was fixed

Hi, I'm surprised the obvious first question has not been asked. Whose responsibility is the fence? If it's theirs then as you say put a fence your side of it, if it's yours then remove it and re-instate a fence of your choice on the existing line. Either way let them know what your doing first, then you can proceed or escalate accordingly.
