The level of advice he goes into for R&D work is unreal, even down to how to test a paint finish with gaffer tape. His method of rust prevention could be useful for a lot of people here with unheated sheds. Not sure I want to try caustic soda though.

I find it very interesting... It's like watching a dream of what could have been.

I spent 5 years as the R&D manager for a FTSE250 company, the process was to effectively cobble together a minimal proof of concept from bits in borrowed space in one of the sites' labs, write a detailed specification, and then sub out all the actual development to one or more specialist engineering firms to deal with each particular element.

Being given the time, resources and funds to do proper end to end development in house would have been fantastic.
