New Clarke 151EN 0.9 wire but 0.8 roller

Hi there, I'm completely new to all this and got my first welder yesterday, a Clarke 151en. I opted for the Clarke after reading loads of posts on this forum.

i've put most of the unit together this am. (i really wanted to get up early and have a play with the welder).

anyway,

my issue is, the wire thats come with it i think is 0.9 wire (theres no label on the roll. the metal roller for the feed has 0.6 on one side and 0.8 on the other.

the instructions say "the 7mm groove should be used with 6mm dia wire and the 9mm groove for 8mm and 9mm flux cored wire, the welder's factory set with the 9mm groove in position".

so do i have to get a different roller?

Just use the .8 side of the roller and don't put too much tension on the roller. Is the wire for gasless welding ?

Welcome to the forum.

I suspect the instructions are wrong.

The roller is marked correctly for .6 and .8, the .7 and .9 refer to fluxed wire, normal wire is .6 and .8 for that machine.

When using .9 fluxed wire use the .8 side of the roller.

the roller with the groves n has a grub screw then slides off to allow you to flip it over.

hi guys, thanks for the quick replies.

i havent got a gas setup yet, but i probably will go down that route with a big bottle rather than the disposable ones. land rover - say no more.

coz i paid the guy cash, he threw in another roll .45kg 0.9mm mild steel flux cored for no gas welding. the wire in the welder already looks identical, just on a bigger spool.

the mask that came with it looks a bit crappie, so i'm going to try to get a reactive mask today.
