So on a windy Friday I popped down to Northumberland to collect the new aquisition.
Desipte the Bad weather we got back on one piece, well two actually. The trailer was not going to be an option with the wind, So Malcolm Kindly undid the Lathe brom the Base and cut the belt, this being the nut link type. Then it manhandled into the Car.
So we got back dropped the lathe off and went for a beer.
Saturday I go a chance to check it over and remount onto the base. That was actually easier than expected. Despite reading somewhere that it was a bad idea to split the underdrive units, it is only on with 4 bolts and the holes are holes, not slots, so there wasn't much play in the alignment.
Next was to refit the belt. It had been cut with a hacksaw, but there were spare links so after pulling out the cut links I put in the new ones. A job that was alot easier than expected.
Its a 3 phase and an inverter was included, but it was looking rather sorry for itself and looks like a capacitor is missing. I tried it but it doesnt work, so I ordered a new one. So the lathe has not been run yet, but the inverter sould be here by the end of the week.
Next was to check the change wheels that came with it. The lathe is Metric, which for me is a bonus. The 72/18 compunt gear thet the lathe would have originally had was not these, so I'll need to get one, bit the 80 Idler was. I think a 24 will be needed to, butI'll cope with the 80 idler for now.
All the ways are in good condition and there isn't too much backlash although you've got to expect some on a lathe thats almost as old as me.
The Bed has a casting date of 17/04/69 and the serial is at the end of the 1969 range.
There were 3 chucks included, one is a 6 1/2 with no backplate, but the other two, despite not having chuck keys are a 3 and a 4 jaw. Also there is a Catch plate and a Faceplate.
Two Jacobs Chuck came with and I'd already got a couple of mt2 chucks anyway. Loads of tooling bits an bats, minly HSS or carbite brazed tipped.
There is a 4 way tool post fitted and a lantern type toolpost was included but there was no curved seat to put the tool on and the base is too big for the compound slide, so don't think its for this lathe.
