Friends son who is lucky sent it, don't know anything else.
He sent photo of a hob in a new build plugged into a 13A socket a couple of years ago, the house was in use, was there because ring kept tripping

There is a museum of technology in Vienna. Incredible place. They had a temporary display the one year on electricity. Came with an age restriction. Quite bizarre some of the things in there to bodge connections. Quite macabre to see some of the aftermath of things that seemed a good idea at the time, that turned out not to have been a good idea. Somebody’s burnt feet in the remains of boots having vaporised themselves by touching overhead lines , lovingly preserved in a specimen jar ,was a step too far….( no pun intended)

But, it definitely brought home the message, don’t mess with electricity

bit of a different level to the pic, but i had a mate back in the day, who used to refer to his stereo as 'universal' can be used anywhere in the world, it just had the plug cut off and he jammed the wires in the sockets wherever he was!! Granted it was 20yrs ago (actually it was probably more, im still trying to kid myself im young) so im not sure european plugs were *quite* so easily available, and im guessing it originally happened on a drunken snowboarding/surfing trip, but the fact that he was still using it with three brand new cars in the drive, whilst spending several hundred K on his house project was quite amusing

I saw that being done as a kid so tried to copy. I had this battery powered motor but no batterys so stuck the wires in the socket. Boom went the motor, big black line up the wall. Mam came rushing up to my room. I'm surprised I didnt fry. This was late 70's.

Holy poop - I did exactly the same, also in the late 70s! I figured that the 3V motor would just “spin a little faster” if I gave it 240v

I ended up on my back, thankfully on my brothers bed, with a tingling / numb right arm.

Good few years ago i was in Manali, the foot hills of the Himalayas, freezing in the hotel so i asked for a heater.

Chap bought over a two bar electric fire and jammed the bare wires into the socket and held them in with match sticks

Cost me £1.50 !!!
