Need Some Advice Re:removing Crank Sensor On Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Hi, im trying to get a crank position sensor off my jeep g.c
its the 4.7 v8 model on a t reg.

Its made of plastic and its wedged in rock solid and it wont budge.
Ive tried all sorts of wd-40 and penetrating fluids overnight but no luck.
Everytime i try to grip it with pliers a chunk of it breaks off.
Ive got a blowtorch but its very tight and confined and i don'tt think i can focus the heat around it.

If you can get a drill in there, you can try drilling the center then putting screw in to pull on. Or just drill it slightly smaller then its diameter then pry loose the edges.

Hard to tell scale, but drill/tap and use a bolt works well too.

Jeeps seem to be dipped in some kind of thread-lock compound . I have broken, split, cut and torched more bolts on my Jeep than any other vehicle.

ive also just found out that its the wrong sensor some one has put in.
Its for a jeep wrangler and from google its a different shape to the correct one that i have.
i thought that this was going to be a cheap and easy fix....
how wrong i was.

Yes, try to keep from drilling all the way through. Getting pieces inside will likely just fall down in the pan and be strained out by the filter.

Ideally you would drop the pan.

Is the sensor on the timing cover? If you removed it, then maybe you could do it on the bench.

The sensor is in the worst place that it could possibly be!
Its directly on top of the starter motor in the block on driver side.
behind the front exhaust pipe. Theres no room for a powerdrill ill have to borrow or buy a dremel maybe.

The 4L has the sensor on the top of the bell housing. At least it is mounted on a steel plate that is removable with 2 bolts. Of course Craplyr used 12-point bolts to add to the difficulty

I did get a right-angle drill attachment that helped, but it may even be too tight for that.

Does the sensor point at the forward face of the flywheel?

hi there, the sensor fits straight into the block at right angle to crankshaft. its stuck in really tight in a awkward position.
