Only one way to find out. Granted it's been a while since I had a go but yes it is thinner material used nowadays.
Mine turned out really good iirc. Stanley blades are a good test of skill if you don't cheat and butt em up blade to blade.
Little practice things like these are not only a test of the drivers skill but they are also a test of the machines arc stability. Razor blades require a super stable arc at 5-10 amps. A lot of units will struggle to offer this. Coke cans are the same. 10-20 amps AC needs to be stable. Tungsten prep makes a huge difference also. Get that arc bang on focused and stable then you only have yourself to blame if things take a bad turn.
Update ! Well first successful weld with the 0.8 aluminium sheet Thanks for all the advise folks. I do know it is not really what could be called pretty. But I will get there. Turned out I was very much working against myself using a 1mm tungsten as it instantly balls up larger than 1mm. I changed to a very sharp 1.6 and things started to come together, literally. Power set at 39 amps 200 hz frequency on the torch switch. Photo does not show very well but this is a corner joint. Thanks again
The reason I need to be able to weld this light sheet. First off I have a load of this stuff. I am building a Triumph Gt6 race car (Next incarnation actually) And I need to enclose the fuel tank. Also I have several expensive new aluminium body panels and some of them have splits (caused by the press) next to the seams which are needed to rivet these panels on. These new panels are also 0.8 mm. Also the front lower panel spoiler and lower panels will be also fabricated from this sheet,
the yank is cheatin he is washing the high side to the lower autogenous style ,good fit up is key thoroughly scrape edges before welding and get the two plates bridged right away put numerous tacks on to prevent buckling away and gaps opening up, smaller filler wire can be cut into lengths from mig wire and dont try to weld fittings into big flat areas on a completed assembly eg a fuel tank best to set em in first or braze, zinc solder ,epoxy em less distortion
