Need A Helmet For TIG Welding

Hi Guys,

New here, just bought a R-Tech 201 AC/DC TIG welder and was having a play around with it last night following the tutorials on this site, running autogenous beads, beads with filler rod, butt and some fillet welds.

Currently I'm using an Parweld auto darkening mask, but would like one of my own as it is my Dads that he uses with his MIG welder.

Anyone recommend a good mask up to £100 or maybe a little more? It will need to be used with a tig welding thin steel and aluminium.

Seeing as you intend to do some thin stuff look for a mask that goes down to shade 9, not just 10/11 as a lot are,
Also the more sensors to detect the arc can help when the weld pool has obstructions in the line of sight, 2 is generally the minimum, 3 or 4 is better,

Cant recommend a particular model but esab are a good brand to look at

I'm sure others will be along to recommend masks in that price range,

Weldability, Phantom XL.... Seems the best one I have had for years. Beats my last 3 hands down.

I use the SWP same as Paul and it works fine right down to 10 amps.

We have a couple the same as Paul/pedrobedro use. Site lads use them for odd bits of welding out of the workshop.
Obviously not the comfort/quality of a 600 quid Speedglas one, but last well, do the job and the lads don't moan about them.

SWP very good value for money, just make sure you get the variable filter version.

Although I use a Miller Elite I have a SWP Eliminator as a 2nd mask, around £60 and its brilliant.
