Need a hand with a supply to my Unitig.

Picked up a really nice Unitig GW30 for £350 a few weeks back and I'm raring to go, only problem is that I need to work out the size of wires for the main feed. It's a 3 phase machine with 5 pin inputs on the plug, manual says max draw is 50A. It's all being installed by someone who knows what he's doing, but we need to know for sure what size the wires need to be to supply 50A without going overboard on the cost and playing too safe.

My friend here says 6mm, does that sound about right?

It depends on things like how long the cable run is and how it is housed (e.g. in trunking, underground, etc...). You don't say what kind of cable run it is? Have a look at this cable size calculator on the TLC site:

Get some advice from a sparky, install it yourself then get it tested, keeps you safe and complying with part P regs!

Actually it was only my desire to save some dosh that pushed me into making this post. According to the calculator that Graham linked to, my friend's calculation of 6mm cable it spot on. He's been installing electrical stuff for many many years so I really should have just kept quiet and bought the 6mm cable.
