need a descent welder!

hi all ive just started welding with a cebora pocket turbo, its ok but i really want something with some balls, im advancing and using my friends murex 251 has just made me realise how having something of that sort of quality makes the world of difference, just wondering whats out there that is close to that welder for a better price?

one thing about the portamig tho is it says.... All models can be used from a standard 13 amp household electric supply up to around 150 Amps (4-5mm mild steel), above that you will need a heavier duty electric supply as outlined in the specifications.

what power supply are you supposed to use other than what it is which is 230?? also does this have a spot timer on it? thanks again

Wannerbewelderjr89, they are referring to a higher amperage supply than the normal household ring circuit, which is fused at 13 amps, but can sweat out out a bit more if pushed. You can take up to 30 amps off your consumer unit with the right cable, but routing it can be a problem.

Some use a cable out of the bottom of the (unused) 30A cooker socket if the lady of the house doesn't object, then find a way out of the kitchen across to the garage, or wherever the heavy stuff is welded. You can hang a 32A cable and socket out of the cooker box, providing it's properly supported, and leave it hanging there until you need to plug in your 32A cable for occasional heavy use. (But keep it covered from kids...)

I find it is better to contact him by phone and it is easier to haggle on the phone too.

the only problem is that between 7.00am and 6.00pm, I am in a phone deadspot and thats not going to change for the next few weeks

Weldquip has been on the site, but not had any reply to either the PM or the email to his shop.


Think I might look elswere now.
