ive got that torch and i refill the cylinder regularly from any propane tank I come across - if anything was amiss or loose at the neck it'd be binned its common sense. You cant legislate stupidity out of the population.

No need they do it for us, unfortunately they keep on inventing Rules and regs, helping them to infect the gene pool

True enough that common sense is needed, but are you seriously saying that you'd be OK with the manufacturers shipping out shoddy goods? And how would you view it if a son or daughter was put in hospital by a faulty tool? Would you take them flowers, or tell them off for being stupid?

the bottles arent manufactured defective - they become damaged by the user, if you drop it you check it, you get another bottle out the van.

If you get supplied a bottle thats damaged you reject it, this has only ever happened with the Rothenburger refill bottles you just pass it back over the counter and say "Nope gimme another"
dont get all caught up in some class action lawsuit propaganda.

bottled gas is dangerous you need to use your wits The snap ring is a safety feature that doesnt work and i see that they dont have that on the website anymore they need to stop claiming it works or make it work which would render a rather expensive and good torch pretty useless as it'd be broken every Friday on the rush to get the tools on the van and off the job.
Biggest safety would be to disable the trigger lock but then thats usefull in some situations.

Ive used that system for over 10 yrs and never ever had a problem ive purged and binned one bottle that id dropped and kinked the neck- and that was before i read the stuff you posted a link to recently.

I think if you read what is said on the website, it says that the manufacturers claim to have built a safety feature into the torch itself, so that it will break before the bottle, but that has been shown to not be the case. I would call that shoddy.

I deplore the way we have latched onto the litigation for everything attitude that is currently prevalent and am not arguing in it's favour. I am saying that accidents will always happen, that people who use tools are not always as well informed or as sensible as we might wish and that there is a small chance that a cylinder could be faulty without anyone being aware.

Even if we would always decline to use a tool that we ourselves had dropped, do we always check every tool before use, to ensure that it's not been dropped and put back in place by someone else?

Just as we can't legislate against stupidity, neither can we legislate against accidents - is there anyone on this forum (or outside) who can honestly claim not to have done something stupid in the workshop at some point, or just to have had an accident?

That fracture ring which is supposedly a safety feature is fairly pointless whether it works or not. There's 101 ways you could knock/damage that setup without the tip area being involved. Remember that there are always two sides to a story. A lot of people have a very bad habit of failing to mention the crucial little bit of information which is most important, yet they're always quick to lay blame. I neither know nor really care where the fault lies with those things, but I'm guessing there's more to most of those incidents than is mentioned. Not suggesting that faulty goods aren't responsible in some cases either. Accidents can and do happen, but you can't protect people from themselves, as others have already mentioned.

Yep if you read the actual cases rather than the headline you'd think the torch just spontaneously combusted! At some point its been dropped/ misused and they have either carried on not done basic safety checks on the equipment - im not talking about some H&S bull, just checking over the tools of your trade to make sure they work as intended. As i said ive been using and abusing that system for years and never had an incident ( altho i always switch off the thumb wheel now and purge the torch........they have a rep for setting vans alight after the load settles when you have to do a sudden stop )

Id be upset if the ring did work as id be on my 4th or 5th torch now
