the pic on page 1 had it spot on crossing while holding the piece he was cutting

I bet he didnt even read the warning instructions about not doing it as he got it from his father

theres enough info to view and read about those saws and many others out there but i bet he never checked

on another note brother got caught out by a brand new circular saw other day

note these new saws dont have the riving knife at rear they are deadly if the wood closes on the blade lifts it straight out of the wood

this is what happened to him but we are aware hold those saws tight if they grip they do jump up and back on you

They took the guard off in that video. It would be good to see in slow-mo the guard spring back and what protection that adds.

You can feel in the motor and speed of cut when they start to bind.

If I'm ripping something like that with my cordless I keep some wedges handy to tap in the cut

Can't say I've ever had a skilly kick back because it gives plenty of warning.

Tracksaw has. Usually when it's still getting up to speed and you accidentally plunge too early.

So a blind cut? In which case the blade shouldn't have bound

Tell him to hold on tighter next time

I can’t imagine any circumstance in which I would allow any part of my body to be dragged into a chop saw. I happen to be quite fond of my extremities. However, the consequence of an unrestrained saw being able to climb up your arm had never occurred to me. Got a couple of those things and they always just sit on a bench top or on the ground.

I wouldn’t use one on a narrow shelf (workmate) like the chap in the article but I don’t think I have ever even used one that’s properly fixed down. Is that uncommon or do we all do it?

I think as he was cutting up a shed for firewood, he probably didn't have it clamped securely in the vise.
