First off, HI to all on here.
I'm thinking about getting into welding.
I'm doing a project on my car and have thought of some things that would be good to make up to be custom. Exhaust for example.
I won't be doing any major jobs. Max thickness would be a couple of mm... maybe 3mm max.
Anyhoo, I'm after a rough cost of what it would be to set it all up properly. Would I need a special work bench to work from? Or would my patio floor be ok?
I'd be looking at welding stainless steel mainly, so what gas should I use? Pure Argon, or 5% CO2 mix? I spoke to a local welding supply place today and they recommended that, but wanted to check out other opinions as I'd seen both on various sites. I would also maybe do little bit of Ally welding.
Finally, what welder would be recommended for these sort of jobs? I've seen the Clarke 151TE is highly recommended. Any others?
What about wire suppliers? Gas suppliers? ... .so many questions...
Hope someone could shed a bit of light and point me in the right direction.
I'm off to a college open day this evening to see about a course, but not sure if it will cover what I'm wanting to do.
Thanks in advance,
Ant
