Hi, I found this with some old tools I acquired recently, but have no idea what it's for. There's a flat-head screw in the hex end that has a few turns of play in it, and am assuming the jaws should move somehow - but don't currently.
Googling the name gets me nowhere useful (unless looking for new trousers) - any ideas?

Often needed to get the piston out of a bore without smashing the the ring lands on the piston to death. Cords ridge dodger rings had a step machine in the top to stop the rerung piston hitting the ridge at tdc. Can you tell I am old
