Mystery electronic kit

Clearing the collectables out of the loft and found a sealed in the bag electronic kit any ideas what it does?
My Chinese isn't what it was but it has a drawing

The first section is a comparator, the D1 rectifying an input AC signal, (audio?). The second section seems to be configured as an amplifier which controls the output transistor, which lights the LEDs when a signal is detected.

Edit, actually looking again, it seems to be a DC controller, the input from the output transistor comes from DC power applied to D1, so some sort of current or voltage control / indicator? However I am not sure why you then have the LEDS. D1 is there to prevent reverse polarity being applied.
C1 is being used for feedback, adjusting the gain of the second stage with time.

Thinking further, it makes little sense, so I might have to build it to test it!

Question - Simulation error in LM358 breathing lamp circuit ?

I made an LM358 breathing light circuit according to the circuit diagram on the Internet. When I simulated it with multisim, it showed a simulation error. Where is the problem? Multisim does not have 8050, I used 2N5551 instead.

I think the op amp with a cap in its feedback loop makes the whole lot oscillate, frequency is probably modified by the potentiometer.

I did have look at making my own electronic ignition a few years ago as this was in the same place as the Hall Effect switches and transistors I wonder if it was from that? I did also get winch boy a few electronic kits to build years ago as practice for his apprenticeship.

For what it does it's a bit overkill but ideal as a training circuit.

Neighbor has outdoor wall mounted sconch lights that all have a flickering flame effect.
I wish they would turn that off.....
