Mystery Cockpit

I’m sorting through my dads things and he can’t remember what this picture is of. It’s the instrument panel of some sort of fighter aircraft we think, and it was taken in Sunderland he reckons at the old air museum. Anyone have any ideas?

Likely taken at Usworth. Apparently the largest aircraft they had was a Vickers Valletta.

No, that little circular window isn’t there. Apparently it may be a crashed plane in the gulf... he’s going to check the log books - fingers crossed

Can’t help identify it but looks like the designers had a bunch of instruments they needed in the cockpit so covered them in blue tak and threw them against the panel from the back of the cabin

No luck - it wasn’t the Percival Pembroke he saw in Bahrain. The mystery is still on!

Is it even a cockpit? May be one of those aircraft revolving gun turret jobs , perhaps the oil is gun lube

Defs a cockpit. I’ve had the chance to climb in a revolving turret (good fun when Messerschmitts aren’t shooting at your face, very tight though). It’s pretty much just a metal cage with guns.

I did a concord charter flight, wedding anniversary, after we took off they said sorry, we will not be going supersonic as we are part of the display at Duxford, fantastic being in concord flying alongside the motorway at a few hundred feet waving at motorists, anyhow I digress, I took my licence with me in case I could blag a trip to the cockpit, worked a treat, got to sit in the third seat and the pilot said well a lot of this panel will be familiar to you...………………….. one out of 200 ain't bad. maybe if I had some gaffer to cover up any I did not recognise I could have flown it for a while, a short while but what a lot of dials and switches.

it was the last passenger flight allowed to take part in a display in the UK, after the French cocked something up with a fly by wire aircraft at a display.
