i can see where you're going with that, but ive never seen a valve spring compressor that looks like that...

having said that, i googled it and it would appear you are correct...

I used to use an identical one on my motorcycles back in the late 1960's - it's probably still kicking around here somewhere !

Looking at the size of it, I reckon it's probably for a side valve engine in a car, appears to be an adjustable a 6 to 10 inch opening for removing the valve stem collets, larger than I would expect for a motorcycle engine.
