Hi folks,
I am in the process of overhauling a Super 7 that I bought recently, it's a bit grimy but seems to be in pretty good condition under the greasy sawdust.
I stripped the tailstock tonight, and found that the thrust bearing (ball race) has a ball missing, and is looking a bit bent. It felt OK in use, but I'd like to get it "right".
Trying to find a replacement - but no joy. The race OD is 32mm, internal 13mm, the balls are 7mm in diameter - probably imperial equivalents as the lathe fasteners (hex heads, allen heads) are imperial.
I have ordered a generic bearing 32mm OD, 15mm ID, 12mm thick including outer races, cost about £4.
Anyone know if the original ball races are available anywhere in UK?
Thanks for any info, appreciated.
(or maybe the "hole" is for holding grease? unlikely but I'm not up to speed with practices back then). I find it a bit strange that there is no sign of the ball, and the race is marked with two notches as opposed to the ones with the existing balls fitted having only one notch/punch mark).
