I used to have a workshop up the Sally army farm at Hadleigh, an old cow shed on the north west side of a barn it was freezing in winter & too hot in the summer. 1500 sq ft for £35 a week was ok though! A good stove helped make it bearable & some nice boat jobs to look at. Spent 15 happy years there before moving out in 2000 It was demolished 2 years ago for a big development & i went in there just before the bulldozers moved in. I hadnt been in there for 15 years & it felt wrong, nothing in there i recognised all the soul had gone out of it.

Dont worry lots of pics is great, the more the better. That looks like a place where stuff gets done i love it,
i have carefully negotiated a nice workspace at home so i will be moving back to a much smaller but nice space about 4mx4m. With a 6mx8m hard standing bit outside. With the possability of knocking through a door into the area shown in last set if pics but thats a battle for another day.

I'm with Addjunkie on this, I got a 10 by 8 shed this year , shelves across the back big bench with vice along the front storage either side, I've never been so organized,all my tools hanging in front of me, everything to hand, first few weeks started a few projects but started feeling a bit deflated , found myself just renovating old tools etc. I think it's just when you get something you've needed for ever and you have been struggling along it takes a bit of getting used to..

Can't say I'm surprised you're fed up with that workspace. There's no organisation, it looks like you opened the doors and threw everything in. You need to spend at least three days getting those two areas squared up. Build shelves, benches, cupboards. Paint the walls white and fit new lights. Get everything off the floor. Sling out those packing boxes and everything else you don't need or won't use.
Sorry if it sounds harsh but you did ask what's wrong. I'm not exactly a tidy worker but I can make my work-space tidy. That place would drive me bonkers.

Fair point, as you say i did ask, It started well with a plan for laying it out all organised, thinking about possible future machines etc and taking everything in to consideration, spent ages getting everything in the right place, then it started raining and it was a case of finding dry areas so everything stayed dry untill i fixed the roof. Its also partly a case of not feeling fully secure and committed to moving equipement here permenantly and then i realised that mabey the grass wasnt greener on the other side.
Agree, i hate the white roof and white wall i even considered boarsing over then to match the other walls, its like being in a hospotal/dentist, and the reflections from welding ark are insane!.
Thanks for all the input folks, i didnt expect such a response this forum is great. im not so much looking for ways of improving it as i can kind of know the answer to my own question but i was just curious if others have had a similar experiance of having a place where they just dont feel creative/motivated or if i was just odd.

As a fairly serious DIY'r that moves around a lot, stuff I know helps me :
Music - was using a cheap FM radio, now normally streaming of the web.
Light. Daylight is best, I always want to hibernate in dark winter days. I often use LED worklamps (2x20W etc)
Heat. Insulate the floor where you are standing - put carpet or a couple of pallet decks down so you're not on cold earth/concrete. I love an open flame so a woodstove if possible.
Have a tidy-up. Add workbench and storage. Dexion angle for cheap shelves etc.

Much as I have every intention of putting some type of stove in my workshop one day, I know that will also be the worst thing I could do. I can put a dog to shame for sparking out in front of a cosy fire.
Smell is also another thing which helps in a workshop, IMHO. Old oil, grease, wood etc., are all smells I find soothing in a workshop.
With regard to your question regarding lack of motivation, the answer is yes. The only thing to do when that mood takes you is to crack on. You'll eventually get into the swing, and that'll usually also get you thinking about how you can improve your workspace. If you try thinking about how to improve your workspace without doing anything in there, that train of thought will usually just make you worse. Best to not think about it and it will pop into your head occasionally, over time, as to how to improve things to suit you and make it more comfortable.

Not to worry about an answer to that part, we're all a bit odd on here.
My solution would be just to make a start, however small. That will let you see where and what the next move ought to be and before you know it........welcome back, mojo.
