My Welding-Comments please

Like your comments please, on my welding skills( or lack of them)
am using a migmate 105 turbo with 6mm copper and argon mix, welder set to 4 out 6 on power setting.

The welds seem a little high to me like your views please.

first 2 pics or inside the car top of wheel arch, you can see the penatration in the middle of the steel from where I welded from underneath in the wheel arch.

last 2 pic are in the wheel arch.

Bit more power of move a bit quicker also you need to clean the metal up better i know you have undersealed some of it before it's said
migs don't weld very well on dirty metal even new metal needs a bit of a clean up

Your technique looks about right, just turn the power up and CLEAN METAL HELPS!

Beleive it or not the metal was shiney when I started.

The underseal marks that you can see smeared accross the metal is when it caught alit and I put the fire out.

if you in pics 3 & 4, inbetween the welds the shiney has turned brown, is this burn marks or lack of gas?

even new metal needs a quick clean up on the welding edge
most plate has either mill scale or oiled migs are very fussy and like it clean metal same as the underseal that's enough to contaminate the weld also if you had cleaned up the plate you are welding to a bit more you would not have had a fire flap wheels are good for cleaning on thin stuff not as aggressive as grinding discs

Caught fire eh ? Been there Don't worry at least your not having to use an oxy acetylene torch. (Remember those days guys ? Apprentice at the standby with a bucket of water and damp rags? carpets burning, wayoyl going molten and burning your arm etc.

Ahh i used to love the smell of burning under-seal in the early 1980s. It means at least im working

As for the welds. Ii have seen far worse done by mechanic 'welders'

try to practice on as much thin scrap as you can.

Use both hands to steady the gun and push forward at a constant pace and keep the tip distance constant. It looks like you are trying to weld with one hand and got the shakes. Even if you just rest one hand on the work and wedge the other against it it helps a lot.
