You are of course entitled to your opinion but you are ignoring the points raised and just going on the basis that we should all be driven to the lowest level. I realise you have not got a pension BUT were you "forced" to join one when you started work at 18, we were and then they change the scheme. This is all PART of our arguments. Its like you taking out a mortgage for 300 quid over 25 years and when you reach 20 years they extend the term to 35 year and increase the fees by 100 quid to £400 a month for the rest of the term....I bet you would not be happy!

i wish i did have one where the employer paid half in to it. i was on crap pay and gaffer paid nowt . your best taking your point elswhere .the forum isnt the place to debate politics . give it a rest

I wish I was a managing director who played golf everyday but I am not lol I appreciate there are people working for less etc etc BUT the reason IMHO the forum is the place to ask for support, Is the ramifications for us all. There are a large number of fires in workshops each year. WE need to feel safe and secure while carrying out our hobbies surely?

I dont expect everyone to agree and I wont fall out with people who have other views, but the reason is quite simple. IF this gets passed into law the Public will suffer. People will die, fire-fighters will die. No one is asking for "MORE" just what they signed up for. BUT the bigger picture as Fergus points out is selling everything off and going with the lowest bid to run things.......I am not debating politics just asking for people who value what we have now to contact they MP and say so..no one forces anyone to read these threads. Thats a choice everyone can make.

I dont often post on here but i felt i had to on this topic.
the decision to up the retirement age would no doubt be made by someone who,s idea of hard work is pushing a pen around a piece of paper,they have no concept of how lifting and shifting takes a toll on the human body.
the government is always moaning about how much debt they are in whilst sending millions to greedy despots on the other side of the world to fund never ending wars.
if they were sensible they could ballance the books and pay the essential services a decent wage,allow them some quality time in retirement to reap the fruits of their labour rather than squandering the tax take.
as previously posted in the mortgage analagy,they signed up in the knowledge they would work till a certain age then retire on a decent pension, then suddenly the goal posts were moved.
i fully support the firemen and women,i have never had the need to use their services and hope i never will but i am happy to have my tax money spent on them.
so next time there is a serious fire or chemical incident,just be thankfull there is someone to deal with it and maybe save YOUR life.
