This is my other project and my main project at the moment and as you can see the old mitsubishis are my choice of car
Well the project began from this, i travelled to southampton from dundee to pick this car up, not long after i moved to dundee from liverpool.
It all started great with this little pocket rocket.
A Mitsubishi Colt C58 Model 1.8 GTI
But alas it wasnt to be, not long after this photoshoot the timing belt snapped by the NCR roundabout at 15mph.
Which resulted in this.
Now the rocker cover is off you can see that something is missing from the top of the valves.
After a look around inside the head i find these just sitting there.
After seeing that i might have bent a couple of valves at least i then strip off the cylinder head to find the damage you see below.
Injection and misc parts removed.
Cylinder head removed.
And here is the damage iv found, lets play hunt the valves.
Cylinder number 2 which has to the brunt of the damage.
Cylinder number 4, valve has barely touched it.
Cylinder number 2 location on cylinder head.
Piston in cylinder number 2 chewed up.
Damage to valves on number 1 cylinder.
Damage to valves on number 4 cylinder.
2 close up pictures of damage to head on number 2 cylinder.
And here is whats left of the valves for number 2 cylinder.
Then it was time to remove the damaged engine.
Stripped the blow up 1.8 engine and found this.
All the front end then got stripped down to fully weld up the engine bay and iv also come across a pretty big rusty hole.
The hole i found.
After this i was in 2 minds to keep the car but then a good friend in the colt world offered me another colt.
Mitsubishi Colt C50 1.5 glxi
So i traveled down to preston, just outside liverpool and then drove this car back home, after a good check over i then decided to ditch the gti shell as it had an aftermarket sunrook dangerously fitted and due to the various rust etc.
And this is the second colt.
I swapped over the 13 inch steel wheels to 14 inch gti alloys.
I then fitted the colt gti bodykit to it to make it look better all be it with the 1.5 engine FOR NOW !!

Now the real fun begins
Take 1 evo engine with a damaged crank.
Add another evo engine.
And it gives you a healthy evo engine ready to rebuild and drop into a c5 glx with gti spec parts fitted.
Pics show the start on the stripdown.
And a pic of ye old C5 GTI That im using to take all the GTI spec wiring and running gear etc from.
And as from yesterday i started on removing the gti parts from the gti shell ready to drop into the glxi once i get the shell sandblasted, seam welded and repainted, im still undecided on what colour
