Well this is my first project car which i will be doing the welding myself.
The first job im going to be doing is welding a backbox on the car, other ideas are welding metal sheet onto the bonnet to make it into a badboy bonnet, and any other welding it may need im also going to be putting bucket seats inside the car which will need the subframe's welding in, more than likely i will find somthing else to do aswell. i am still awaiting my welding gloves in the post so i will hopefully be starting tomorrow with my new welder off glyn a top bloke!! its a clarke weld 90en. anyways here is a few pictures of the car as it stands now

any ideas,comments or advise greatly appreciated

firstly get rid of that girly knob. the gear knob i mean.
de-badge it.
remove rear seats. make a roll cage(doesnt need to be fixed in. just makes you look more of a plonker i mean boy racer. lol)
bonnet scoops are ok. buy one though, cheap as chips.
on the front grille, replace with that mesh stuff. respray.
sound system
stainless straight through (exhaust)
get the alloys sand blasted and respayed

think that should keep you busy

oh and get the boy racer lexus lights too

lol im not a boy racer i just like subtle mods, exhausts,bonnet extensions etc i dont want to go a full on body kit etc i just want to make it subtle mods and have it as a demo car for the company im trying to set up. any tips for welding a backbox on? its a stainless steel backbox going on to a standard system until i can sort out a full system, just as ive got the backbox sat in the garden doing nothing so thought i would put it on. thanks ian

dont see many of them roland models now i droped lucky and got a full interior of ebay for mine mines only a diesel but just spruces it up a bit ian

ye i was very lucky with this car got it off a friend of a friend just as a project to play around with while im not working. tax and mot just ran out but with some mechanical and bodywork skills and hopefully soon welding skills i get it perfect! ready for next years show season.
can i ask how much you paid for the interior just as i will be selling mine in a few months if i do go towards bucket seats. im looking at getting 4 two in the front and two in the back. thanks ian

Be careful with your strategy. Way to set a company up iin that sector tends to be to demonstrate sales through eBay and the like. A demonstrator car isn't normally all that much use.

yes demon i paid 100£ but that was complete everything dash carpet electrics only thing that i couldent get was the sunroof mines just standard and got the mirrows as well ian

Just take care when you do start welding Ian. I've seen a few peoples dreams go up in flames through not taking the right precautions!

hi glyn which wire would i need to use for welding a stainless steel backbox onto a standard exhaust system? thanks for any help and i will be careful and take my time. thanks again Ian

Well, as you'll be welding stainless to mild, it don't really matter which wire you use I suppose. Why don't you go to the scrap yard and get a length of exhaust that fits into or over the pipe on your back box. Weld that to your standard exhaust. that way you can take the back box off if you have to. Plus it will allow you some adjustment to get it to hang right. Try the .8, that should be ok if the pipe is sound. Must add Ian, the roller on the wire feed, I've no idea which way round it is. If I wasn't in such a rush when I dropped it off, I'd have talked you through it. You might have to turn the roller round to suit the wire. It will be marked on the side for .6 or.8.

ye i noticed when i looked at it today that one side is deeper than the other, the smaller side is on the inside where the wire runs thanks for the info again. ian

Ha I thought it would have been the other way round TBH. It came to me with that gasles wire on and I'm sure it's .8. If you haven't bought any tips yet, you'll have to use the .8 wire to match the tip.

don't see one for ages then spot two in short succession - saw an elderley gentleman manouevering one yesterday in town and it was in mint condition. Probably only done 5k miles!
