My folks place is an old farmhouse only maybe 130yo. Not fabulously well built (farmers then didn't have the money of the church!) But basically stone built.
Technically it's half mine now, & the location is much much nicer with lots of ground & outbuildings than my wee place - but there's alot of damp & remedial work & upkeep - that I'm not looking forward to!

When we were looking to escape the burbs, we viewed many places, full of damp, loads of sheds full of junk, and everything in general disrepair….

Now I own one…I now understand why….your youngish and fitish, still in work, some cash in the bank and buy the place full of enthusiasm.
Then you get tired, old skint and retire! The rest just happens along the way.

Our house is 1820, was originally a stable for working horses for the chemical works (now long gone) I believe there’s a blacker bombard pit buried in my field that was put there to defend against invasion forces, but mrs tbd won’t let me dig it up
