My new bargain vfd - I think!

Thing is huge. Only 0.75kw but weighs about 20kg! New they are about £400 plus vat. I paid £67!
It said it was new. Well perhaps it was 5 years ago!
Been stored in a wet barn by the look of the box.
Hope it will be ok.

looking at the fixing holes and the hand written pen marker on the top support plate, I recklon that's been used before.... one of the better makes though...

Opened it up. Very happy!

The vfd is only the bit inside, the metal outer case is an enclosure for places that don’t put them in an electrical cabinet, you see lots in water works and places like that just bolted to the wall.

The remote display on the outer case is probably worth almost as much as you paid for the whole thing.

Don't think it has been used. Screws for terminals still in plastic bag and remote lead not plugged in.

Yellow warning sticker still on motor terminals too...

Well it works! Powered it up today. Not connected it to anything yet though.

Is the screw just to the right of the LED an Earth and should it be connected to the case? It looks like one but it isn't marked and the manual makes no sense either!

I did see that but they don't look like proper earthing points on the machine and aren't marked as earths either. Although I have no doubt they are! I will just assume the vfd is safely earthed to the housing already.

Yeah it’s bolted through that plate onto the external enclosure, so shouldn’t need any further earthing.

I downloaded the programming manual - it is 268 pages! These things are far more complex than they appear.

From what I have read I take it you need to wire the motor directly to it? No switches in the way etc?

You can fit contactors /switches between of you want but you need to ensure they can’t be switched while the drive is energised - it can end up writing off the drive. For a home workshop it’s easy enough to make sure you turn it off before doing it.
