My forgotton linisher

I bought this a while ago stupidly cheap. A profile grinder. It has flat. Convex and concave profiles to grind different shapes.
Nobody wanted it at the auction. Didn't know what it was.
But it makes an awesome linisher. Need to get some belts for it. Far longer than they look.
Very solid weighs about 600kg.
The top arm isn't a support. Can be swung out of the way. It is for dust extraction.

mine was £25 with a burnt out motor..... laugh everytime I use it as it says on the label made in INDIA.....

I am impressed and very envious - but fail to see the effectiveness of the extraction arm - unless the belt travels from bottom to top which surely I very much doubt.

If the correct belts are unavailable or expensive to make as specials, how easy would it be to reduce the length of the arms to something where a standard belt will fit?

The selector switch has 2 forward speeds and 2 backwards. I thought it fast on 1 but on 2 OMG!
So yrs could run backwards but why as you say.

Out of interest, how long is long? Long enough to be used in a bandsaw??

I've got one that I use for aluminium. Run in reverse with a cleaning block to unclog the belt.
Running backwards also gives you a new face of sharp grit if the belt is worn out and you only have a little bit more to do...
Plenty of knifemakers like the grinders in reverse for blade making/sharpening.
Woodworkers also as you can run to the grain.
Normally running backwards messes up the belt tracking but probably not if your machine is designed to go both ways.
Just note that most belts are directional so fit it according to the way you use the most and don't do heavy work without rotating the belt
