my first ever weld please comment

this is my first time trying to weld never before even had a welder in my hand im actually really proud of it even though it is terrible but i think i done pretty good for my first ever go was just handed the welder two pieces of metal and told away ya go lol

first thing you should learn is that the areas your welding need to be as clean as possible....rust does not burn, so lets see shiny metal when you're ready !

Hi,

have you tried some straight runs on a flat plate yet?

It's the best way to learn...

put the welder on minimum power and then as you do each run turn the power up one notch. You'll see the best couple of settings, somewhere near the middle of the range.

Stick with one of these power settings and try different wire-speeds.

After an hour like this you should have a good idea of what speed and power combo is right for that thickness of plate. Then you can start joining two or more pieces together.

Post the pictures of your practice runs and you'll get lots of advice from the forum.

Well done. I remember taking the first MIG weld I did at an evening course home to show my wife Now I'm learning TIG and I have a steel fillet weld sample and a aluminium butt weld sample sitting under my monitor at work now. I have this fantasy of being on a guided tour of a nuclear reactor when someone runs screaming through the place saying "The reactor's cracked and going to blow!!! Does anyone know how to weld????" at which point I (a) step up and save the day and (b) wake up.

yeah its stuck together lol i dont think its rust on it my gas was running out got it changed today am gonna try grinding it down first havent got any flat plate to practice on my hubby makes dog pens so its only inch box iron he has out in the shed

its a butters amt mig welder we have out in the shed
