My drag Beetle

Ok so after years of watching and wishing I thought I would go ahead and build myself a Drag beetle to race in the VWDRC

So I've been busy buying and collecting parts for the last year or so to do this (still missing engine and gearbox tho)

Right to start then the chassis.

1971 swing axle (for the moment anyway) beetle floor pan.

The shell is a 1966 one which has had it's front clip removed (it was a sign it wanted to be a race car)

I have a pair of 9" steel wheels (not idea but meh) which I have blasted and prepped for powder coating and they will be wrapped in some huge MT tyres.

Thats all the fun photos at the moment I still have to move the shell so I can get started on it.

I plan to upgrade the rear suspension to IRS and lift the rear torsion tube 2" which means cutting the whole back end off the chassis
Once the chassis is done I can remove the rear inner section from the shell and make an alloy firewall (good reason to buy a swager ) as well as the front lower section in the beetle.

Then the cage will have to be made (this part I'm not 100% on as yet) but I will be designing and welding it myself.

I might make an alloy front beam for it but again this is not 100%.

Lots to do and plan if I'm luckly I may get on the strip by the end of next year.

gonna be interesting following this one, when its done im sure there are a few lads on here that would challenge you to a race, langy and gary maybe?

What motor are you using? Turbo or NA?
I have a long block here that with the right bits would maybe give Mr Lang a run for his money! ;-)

A mate is building me the engine it'll be 1914+ turbo'd but it's almost the biggest cost of the whole project.

I have a turbo prepped 2332 here. Best of gear from the US. £2k.
