Hi all
For the past few years I've been pining for an old car I can work on and improve on over time. I'm sure we all do it, scanning eBay for them cars we've always fancied. For me, born in 1981 I loved cars since I was crawling, and remember certain cars very fondly. Down my street in East Ham in London, within doors of each other were a Peugeot 205gti, a Renault 5 gt turbo and an E10 BMW 2002. I promised myself I'd own the Renault, and when I passed my test in 98, I bought two. I will own another one again but the one I always wanted was the BMW.
Fast forward to now and I've been browsing the forums and eBay for a couple years now. Then one popped up for not a lot of money. Ok, she ain't a 2002 and she isn't a round light, nor tax exempt, but these are the reasons why it was cheap. That and the fact it needs PLENTY of work!
I picked it up from a bloke in Milton Keynes who had loads of em in the past. He was nice and honest with the description and had done some of the tricky welding already, albeit about 15 years ago. The car has just sat there, so the parts he has done are still solid. The parts he hasn't however...
So here she is when we picked her up. Only have a few photos but I'll update tomorrow as I'll be spending a good few hours with her and stick more pics up for you lot
All the parts are there (well, in the boot), and a couple of panels cut off another car he owned, and he still has bits and pieces spare that I could pinch off him if I need them.
The car is running the bigger 2002tii engine, but strangely isn't running the injection system and is running the single carb setup.
Plans for the car are to make her a solid, reliable and useable classic, but a bit more up to speed style wise. Nothing that couldn't be put back to standard if needed. I'm talking nicer, wider wheels and rubber, lowered a couple inches etc.
She doesn't need to be fast (I have a Skyline GTR for that), and she doesn't need to do the mundane family stuff (BMW 535d for that). She just needs to be beautiful!!!
I'll update this thread as I go, as I'm sure I'll be picking your brains all the way through this build, as it's the very first time I'll ever attempt to do anything like this.
It sure won't be the last though!
Comments, criticisms and suggestions welcomed
Hope you like
