Hi all, just beginning on arc. I had a little play a few years ago on a friend's generator welder and recently a friend bought me a little Pecol IS150 MMA inverter which I'm running on a 2.5kW generator (so I'm limited to about 70A). We are just negotiating to buy a 6kW Hyundai diesel genny, which should allow me to run the Pecol at its full power.
Pecol is a Portuguese tool manufacturer, so I guess the inverter is rebadged Chinese or similar. I've burned 135 2mm 6013s so far practicing and it's still running.
The big disappointment so far is the manual. It says, "To connect accessories, connect the ground clamp to the positive input - and then connect the elwctrode pliers to the negative input +" I hope someone can work out if that's a straight or reverse connection coz I sure can't. Also there's no technical information in the manual; for instance it doesn't say what the OCV is. I'm guessing, since I can run a bead at 70A on my 2.5k genny without tripping it, that it's around 70v. If that weren't bad enough, the website link they give for the online manual and technical information doesn't work. Nor have they replied to my email regarding support. The stinger and ground clamp are pretty pants too, not to mention the chipping blob/wire shaving brush that came free with it. Oh, and a flat-pack manual welding mask (lucky I already had an auto-dimming lid with naked ladies painted on the side).
135 sticks later I feel rather more confident, even if only slightly more competent. Oh well, pad practice and all that. I have managed to stick together a hinge for my gate from a bit of 5mm bar I picked up. (pic below).
Thanks for the forum, it's been a very helpful resource for learning.
