I have had my Unimig 180 for a week now and with some spare time on my hands I was able to practice laying down beads and welding scraps together until I was reasonably happy with the results. Every time I had a success I wrote down the settings. I have often heard about the "Sizzling bacon" sound, but as close I can get to that is more like a loud "crackling bacon". I fillet welded 2 pieces of 50mm x 3mm together forming a "T" and after it had cooled down I cut it into 4 sections about 30mm long and then tried breaking it in the vice with a hammer. All it did was bend above the weld ...... I was happy !
The welding cart I made is mostly out of 50mm X 3mm with pine board shelves and the drawer made from MDF (craft wood). I wanted something different and a bit challenging for the 2 handles, so I used some 20 X 20mm RHS, and plug welded a nut inside them for the bolts to go through. I then cleaned them up with a flap disc before putting them on the buffer and then giving them a coat of clear to stop them from rusting. I also added 2 pieces of 50 X 50 down each side of the gas bottle and cut some caps for the top of them to tidy them up. Not much thought went into holding the bottle ......... I used an old belt !
Lets see if I can add the photos now.
