My 1st few welds (and now 2nd welds as well)
So, after finally getting my welder and sorting out a gas bottle, I got around to trying some welds tonight. What do you think? Plenty to learn, and plenty more practice needed, but I was shocked that some looked even half-way decent (to my untrained eyes of course
).
Done with a Portamig 185, settings Coarse 1, Fine 4, wire speed 5. 5% argon mix gas at a bit under 10ltr/min, welding with 0.8mm wire on 1.5mm sheet.
Number 1 was the first time I've ever pulled a trigger, so understandably shocking quality! Number 5 I think I lingered too long in one spot, so blew a hole (I think that's what happened at least!). On a couple of them (not sure which) I think I pulled the torch too far away from the metal at various points, so probably didn't help!
Let me know your thoughts/criticisms etc. - I'd rather get an idea of what I'm doing wrong now than carry on doing it!
