My 1 owner 2819 mile Triumph T595i Daytona recommission.

Well, I did post the procurement of this in my old thread which morphed into the other T595 rebuild thread so I decided after pretty much completing this one this week that I’d document it.

Basically I chased my mate for a lot of years to buy this beautiful thing which he bought new in 2000 for almost £11k which then languished in a damp garage after he lost his license for DD back in 2011. He finally relented after spotting a KTM that he fancied after getting his license back, for a little over £3k. The pics below were taken in 2023 the day it was collected.
It wouldn’t start, so armed with a manual and multi-meter I found ineffective relays and placed in incorrect slots (headlight cut, fuel relay and rad fan are mostly interchangeable) which essentially got it running and I got to ride it home. It was popping and banging and generally running rough. I had a suspicion that was cracked and perished IACV pipes. More on that later.
She is all there but forks had putting, discs peeling, tyres 15 years out of date and wheels peeling (along with minor aluminium corrosion on some of the frame (which I will probably leave alone as it’s genuine age related and I’m not stripping this down to a bare frame to powder coat it!)

First this it got was to get it on my ABBA stand so I could get the wheels off and forks out so they could get PC’d.

Then the headlights and mirror mounts were sent for coating in satin black as the magnesium was peeling.

Next up was the fork rebuild. Fresh seals were ordered along with Fuchs 7.5WT oil and a couple of used stanchions to replace the pitted legs.
Homemade fork tools called into action after making a few bits I didn’t have to account for the fork size.(45mm). I also made a fork oil level tool with a bit of 1/4” stainless tube and a 50mm syringe. I got my powder coated rims back and knocked up a captive spacer too and tapered a couple of stainless bolts for the fork pinch bolts.

It was around this time that the other T5 came along so I got sidetracked for a while recommissioning that one. Due to the decision to break that one now due to an engine rattle, it pushed me to get back on with this some 12 months later. It donated its refurbished tank which got stripped and painted due to ethanol issues which means after every ride it’ll get the tank drained and let to vent. Hopefully that will slow its progress. It’s amazing how ethanol can cause these tanks to bubble and deform in shape until they literally won’t fit back on the bike!
The bike has had a frame adaptor fitted to allow the use of my Constands spider stand which allows you to get both wheels clear of the floor and wheel it around.

The idle air control valve which allows an air bleed from the airbox to be metered to the throttle bodies at idle which I was convinced was causing my running maladies was looked at, and true to form all 3 rubber lines were perished and split. I replaced these with 6mm silicone lines (pics are actually from the other project but are identical). Blowing on the pipe from the airbox revealed a mass air leak. Turns out it was running poor as one line was on the wrong (blocked) stub meaning that the open stub was allowing an unmetered air bleed.

Aside from hooking up Tune ECU to update the fueling map to make it run better with the low level Triumph TORs end can and a mot that is pretty much where we are today.

I feel another build thread coming….
….although I think the TL1000 is next in line. It great having projects lined up but I need the mini gone to free up valuable project space.

That’s a great write up.
It looks like a cracking job - well done.
You certainly keep yourself busy on these projects.
Including your sons T4.
What do you do in your spare time?

I’m not allowed spare time, I get myself in too much trouble.
Honestly though, I work offshore for 2 weeks and get 2 weeks off, out of that time I’m travelling 2 half days, wife likes the caravan for 3 days each week so I generally get 6 days per month to play and if she gets home from her salon early I don’t like to spend time in the garage when she’s in the house so it’s surprising how little time I get considering I get 14 days off!

Bike got its first mot in 14 years on Tuesday. Clean sheet too. Rides very nice.

Just taken another deposit on it. Getting collected on 24th with any luck, If I get messed about again it’ll just get moved to my dads garage once the P1800-1800S has sold and I’ll get to it whenever.

TL1000S is up next. Just bought a full compliment of exhaust gaskets earlier and some fresh stainless exhaust studs with copper nuts.
White bodywork going on to replace the black. Won’t be to everyone’s taste but it’s my bike. Also, the black stuff has minor cracks and damage.

Bit more space without the mini. I’m thinking of pressure washing the floor to get rid of the oil staining then painting the floor before I get on with the other bikes.
