Mutant Strawberries from Downunder

Is it me or do our strawberries down here in Oz seem to be getting bigger and bigger, I certainly don't remember getting mutant sized strawberries when I was a kid.

The strawberry on my hand weighs 39gm and just for reference my hand is 100mm across, it tasted alright , but just wondering if I am going to grow a 3rd arm or something eating these, incidentally these one are not the biggest that we have had.

Do you guys in England also get giant strawberries?

A third arm would be quite useful. It would however render all my current shirts, jackets and t shirts unusable.

My in laws used to grow strawberries and the big 'jammers' were very common, tasted nice too.

Everytime I eat one these days it reminds me [because of their lack of taste] of The best stawb’s I’ve ever tasted was at the side of a track in Dalby Forest. Tiny wild Stawberries, they were a stawberry explosion in you mouth, I can almost taste them now.

Yes we get them but they arent as nice the small ones......Scottish ones are particularly nice (you dont know how hard it is for me to admit that)....We have relatives with a strawberry farm and they do a Pick Your Own....this year they have grown a later crop....but the good weather has brought them on early and they are massive.......its a bit of a problem as when weighed they may be 20p each, but people eat them whilst picking so they can easily get through a few quids worth.

They are actually quite nice, just concerned that it's gene/chemical modification, or selective breeding.

Personally, I’ve never measured mine. It fits the mouth, I eat. It doesn’t fit the mouth, I still eat.

I’m getting older and I eat more fruit these days. You can go to the same shop on consecutive days and the strawberries are different, the huge ones are quite tasteless tho. Had some quite dark ones yesterday and they were very tasty

You’ve got me salivating now. Eating Cherries out the park at the moment. Of coarse the biggest and darkest ones are way out of reach. Every yr I keep saying I going across with the ladders and ‘Cherry picking’ the higher ones before the birds get them...

Sorry read it wrong I thought you meant the strawberry was 100mm. Now that would be a mutant strawberry.

Been buying my Scottish strawberries this last couple of weeks. I can assure you that not only are they huge, but they are lovely.

They are even better early when they are small and sweet....best there is.....I love it when the supermarket changes from the big early ones grown abroad (that taste like potatoes) to the little scottish ones.
We are strawberry connoiseurs....we eat them nearly every day and they are ALWAYS in the fridge
