You're a big lad and can cope with being called names and a few swear words. They won't hurt you, but think of the effect on him; he's a sucker.
He was silly enough to boast of having ripped you off. It's pointless stupidity to insult your customers, as Gerald Ratner discovered.
You fixed it for a few quid and about an hour's interesting work reversing incompetent repair efforts. Now it can be sold on, honestly, as a working Murex 160 MIG set for far more than you bought it for. Serious customers can have, and would be expected to request, a trial.
I don't entirely subscribe to this, and it's probably wiser to keep quiet, but as a one-time workmate of mine used to say, "What's the point of being on top if you can't rub it in?".
sorry to bump up an old thread but would you mind sharing where you bought the new contactor from please? I am buying the same welder and have contacted Murex and they supply a contactor for this machine which is 22 pounds odd. Also could you share a photo of the contactor location please as google doesn't raise any. Thanks, Mark
If you look at the two pics in post number 8 then the contactor is just below the light green resistor on right hand side of pics, just to the left of the fan.
Got the welder guys. It's a darn heavy thing! But I like that, Shows good build quality IMO.
Anyway, First things first, Plugged it in, fed wire and gas, no arc, removed side panel and tried to push the contactors 'tit' and it wouldn't budge, Took out the contactor and.............. :drumroll:
looks clean inside though. However I've got confused with the wiring, They are numbered but there is more than one of some numbers, (3 x 42 :/
Do you have a total of 6 wires ?
two in (L & N)
two out (L & N)
two for the coil
6 in total
With that coil in the contactor fried might be there is a "stuck on" relay that feed power to that coil. Make a note when you get a replacement contactor and fit it to watch and make sure the contactor does not operate till you pull the trigger.
If you are on a very tight budget itg may be possible to replace just the coil (if available)
