ello.

i got me hands on a 161 today.

plugged it in to see if its a runner, all was ok till i went to use it.

the wire speed keeps going fast/slow and sometimes not at all, the tension on the feed roller is ok, looks like the motors not getting a regular feed.

any ideas what this could be?? and is it fixable???
( im not to clever we my electronics)

Brilliant It all went downhill from there Did you get an arc from it? if it's all working except the feed speed control it sounds like it should be fixable.

yep, getting a good arc, just this wire feed prob.

The liner may be binding,does it change speed, if you keep the torch lead straight ?

had the lead straight and tried a friends lead aswell, still does it though.

could it be a dicky wire speed switch??

took the cercit board off the back of the switch today, but i aint got a clue what im looking for if there is out wrong with it.

not sure if this is any help but I had some problems with mine today it's been a bit finicky for a while when having a look at the wire feed I noticed that the wire and worn a groove into the guide where it enters the wire feeder might be worth checking
to fix just pull it out twist around a bit and push it back in now everything is working perfect

cheers for that, will have a look.
but i think its a leccy prob, possibly the control switch, a friend tested it and it dont seem to work as one would expect.
so ordered a new one from maplin today, for the sake of 99p its worth a try!!!

well, i got it sorted, the wire speed problem.

turns out it were a 99p switch from maplin.
