multipass mig welds ?

So right now i'm not very good with my stick welder, getting there though!

And I only have a 145amp mig that sometimes is a little underpowerd for my needs ..
Say if I was doing a fillet weld on 8mm steel, could I just run multiple passes using the mig at full power ?

Possibly. If you get good fusion on one pass, multiples will be fine. If your 145A has the heat sucked away on 8mm steel and the welds are not up to par, it don't matter how many you do, they'll be for show and not much else.
I suggest a test piece with multi pass weld and a scientific batter with a hammer.
It's that or learn how to use the stick properly...

there is a video from the welding institute called "Mig welding mild steel with low current sets"
the technique for thicker material in this video is to weld vertical up, then you can get good penetration

Lots of practice on the stick set would be a better plan!

Learn to stick weld, its far easier to get penetration with a stick welder than a mig.

Got it, ill get practising with the stick,
Not half bad at laying a flat bread .. awful at anything else at the moment! Will get there eventually ...
