Multimeter Squarewave

Got a new digital multimeter for me Grandad.
His 30 year old analogue one wasn't very accurate

I explained the various functions to him, but stumped at what the squarewave setting is for....?

Anyone care to explain, in simple terms please?

A picture might help. Likely function is as a signal generator, but that's a guess without sight of it.

Doubt he'll ever likely need it, so just tell him not to bother with that setting/function.

It's to do with accuracy of AC voltage measurement. It takes a better average of the peak to peak voltage

Digital frequency counter?

It could be a duty cycle reading. Something like, it is on for XX% of the time. Similar to an old dwell meter.

Could also be frequency counter, but qould probably sat that.

Instructions? Minimal, and mostly in Mandarin

So its a squarewave generator, as the Maplin one....for audio testing.....

Anyone give me an example of how/what it it might test for?

The book may be in mandarin but it usually points you somewhere Does the sq wave sine have "out" after it like the Maplin one ? this would suggest a Sq wave out

What's the make/Model No? May be able to come up with more info. from the Web.
If it is a square wave output it can be used for signal tracing - square wave being rich in harmonics.
In broad terms, if you had a multi stage audio amplifier with no output you inject the square wave signal into the stages in turn and note where the square wave test signal either appears or disappears to locate the fault.

The other thing you can do with it is cable tracing. Inject your tone one end and listen for it the other with an earpiece.
