Hello all,
I'm after a welder, mainly for fixing bits of rusty Land Rover (seems to be a popular pastime around here
). The obvious choice would be fairly basic 150A or so MIG set, but there are a couple of things which I'm wondering about:
Firstly, due to where the nearest power socket is, I will probably need to run around 15m of mains cable. I can wire in a separate breaker and a 32A socket, which should help, but there will still be some voltage drop. This makes me think that it might be worth going for a more efficient inverter set, like the Kemmpi Miniarcmig. The smaller size would help with storage as well.
Secondly, whilst MIG is mainly what I need, stick would also be useful in places and basic TIG is something I'd like to play with when I have time. This makes me wonder about one of the new multi-process units like the Cebora Tristar, Thermal Arc 220 or the Butters MIG2050 (a bit out of my price range). There's also the STEL Miggy 161, but I can't seem to find any UK dealers, STEL pointed me to Butters who haven't replied to my enquiry.
Does anyone have any thoughts on these, or multi-process units in general. Am I better just getting an (inverter) MIG and then picking up a cheap DC MMA/TIG on ebay to play around with?
Thanks,
AndyC
