Hi, I am trying to find out the approx value of a Rickman Metisse with a Kawasaki engine. My late neighbour who has sadly passed away was working on one before he died.
His widow is wanting to dispose of it but has no idea of value. It is almost running with lots of new parts.
I believe it just requires the fuel injection wiring to be reinstalled.

Ebay has many faults but one good thing it has, especially with the likes of the bike you mention is good Uk coverage with many enthusiasts browsing the ads, the result is bikes tend to fetch what they are worth.

The key is good photographs and lots of them and a well written description, also of course realising you may get the occasional chancer trying his luck with a daft offer or trying to drop the price when sold.

I have sold 3 bikes without problems over the years, each one sold for what I considered a good price, you may be at the exact right time of year too, people tend to look for projects for the winter months about now.

Auction format stating cash only is the way to go, under the selling regs vehicles are one of the few categories you can demand cash on collection.

What style of bike is it? There are Rickman Metisse scrambler and café racer frames and the Japanese engine probably detracts from the value so it would be better to get a proper valuation and search for any provenance on the frame than ask on a forum for welders. It probably started life with a Royal Enfield engine or similar.

The Kwacker Rickmans were hard assed cafe racers, making ill handling big Jap's go like hell and go round corners. Gorgeous things. Google image Rickman Kawasaki in fact I just did that.

The motor must be more recent than the Z1 or Z900's used in Rickman Kwackers as it has fuel injection. Clean Rickman Kwackers with a Z1 motor will go for £6k +.

The Z1000 and GPz1100 had fuel injection 30-odd years ago, could be one of those lumps. Pics would be good.

As I said it belongs to my neighbour, I think it is about 1976, definitely fuel injection. It is locked away at present. Thanks for your input. I dont like to appear to interested or I might find myself working on it.

I learned my lesson the hard way doing favours for friends. A few years ago a friend asked me to help him start a pre war Jenson saloon he had inherited.

Fitted a battery off my XJS after turning the car over on the handle. Oil down cylinders etc. It was a side valve Ford Vee 8 engine.

Car started readily with clouds of smoke. ran for ten seconds then stopped with a thud. Wife of friend then informed me that her Father had stored the car after knocking noise.

I felt obliged to carry on, always was a soft touch, and curious. A strip down revealed that a piston crown had detatched itself and was responsible for the lock up.

Took several weekends dismantling and fighting with items such as the valves before reconditioning was completed. Never again. It is still in my friends garage and he seems to have lost interest, he has high expectations as to its value.

Without a Z1 or Z900 motor it's not worth as much. Actual value strongly depends on condition and what the motor is, and, if it registered and has documentation.

Are you sure you want to risk ten pounds without seeing it? It has disc brakes. Thought that might put you off.
I am trying to distance myself from the whole affair I would take a look at it again but am concerned I might get involved I was just hoping to get general guidance as to its value.

I know the rickmans were popular with the honda SOHC engines, but rickman didnt wear blinders he would put all sorts of engines in his frames. He wanted good engines for his great frames and wasnt biased to brand.
OH and i~d offer 30 pounds if it wasnt gonna cost thousands to ship over here lol.
