Motorbike tyre failing advice appreciated.

Have ordered a new one.
I suppose they wear out gradually, I check the pressures every few days because I is fussy like that, this time of year everytime I go out as I dont use it if there is any chance of ice, country lanes+big fat beemer+ice= complicated maths.

Cant believe that I had not spotted the wear, I suppose that big fat single sided swinging arm and huge panniers does obscure most of the right side of the tyre, and by habit I access the tyre from the left. Lessons have been learned.

That tyre is just a victim of a bike ridden properly - looks like you're not scared of the bendy bits in the road

Seriously, it's well worn out and has long been past it's best. When you fit a new tyre, watch the turn-in as it will be a LOT faster than you've been getting on that old carcass (talking about the tyre not the rider ).

You've probably been using the rear brake as well, always causes problems

Back brake? whats that then?
Hardly ever use it, these beemers are odd, back brake makes the front end dive slightly, I confess to being a boring ahead plnner, ride quick when it is safe and stay off the brakes.

The Bimmer is a shaftie? So wheel alignment should've come into it.

Take it you don't use garage gauges, checking that often - found the local garage was 9psi out!
D'you go up any rough tracks/ruts etc, does look like it was spun there with the puckering around the white inner.
I've got PR2s on my Triumph, seem very good, nice wet grip.

if i were you chunko i would check that the tyre has the 1.6mm legal limit left on the tyre if so then contact the company it is clear that the tyre has shredded i dont think it should have.
ive changed plenty of tyres even where people have been doing dougnuts and they still dont shread like that.
that isnt just wear if it was the rubber would be featherd out at the edges where as on yours you can clearly see it has ripped from the jagged edges

+1 6,000 miles i would be dead chuffed!!! Pilot two is dual compound and it looks like you like you give it some on big sweepers!..........Try a big tour of the Highlands next summer and that will take care of the middle and even things out

And now something totally different...Chunk you don't have a back or leg joint prob do you and sit lobsided on your bike ???
So in effect you ride like a banana shape , If you do have such a problem get a pal to follow you and ask them to see if you acually are riding at 90 Deg to the floor .
My son for some strange reason developed a sidearsed banana manner to the left , it affected his tyres on the rh especially the rear .. I suspect the bike was leant over far more than it should have normaly been at roundabouts .

He wears glasses now , it may be that had some bearing on it before he had his glasses for after things seemed to correct themselves.

I ride an ST1300, also shaft-drive and easily heavier than the BMW and I get 7000+ miles from Pilot Road 2s on the back and almost twice that on the front - and no, I don't ride like a grandad. I've seen 140+ on the clock, 125 two-up, and in full touring trim the bike is little short of half a tonne... and I've never seen a PR2 do what yours has.
The left-side wear does resemble that on a car tyre with misaligned tracking, however. Can't be wheel bearing play or it'd handle like a baby-oiled Cheeky Girl. Similarly for the swingarm pivot. The only thing I can think is that the wheel is not vertical when the bike is, but what could be twisted/bent/warped/kefurkled to cause that...?

I have had an invite from michelin to return the tyre at no cost via their customer services department, seems fair to me, so off it goes next week. Bike is off the road until I get a new tyre.

I will update when I hear back from Michelin.

This could easily have been a nasty incident.

Bike tyres are one thing I'm paranoid about ! Having had one near thing with a rear puncture I leave nothing to chance now !
Even on my classic stuff I change the tubes every 2 years or so. At one time I used to patch them if I had a puncture, it's always a new tube now.
