Motor Winding

Hi folks

I've got a 1/10 th horse power motor that's come off a vintage table saw. Any one know how much it's costs to rewind as it's burnt out. A new one of similar spec costs around £150. It will be good if I can get the old one sorted cheaply as I won't have to mess about with new mountings etc.

Also any recommendations for a suitable place in and around the Northampton, Milton Keynes area that rewinds motors

Try these people for a cheaper motor. A re-wind nowadays will cost as much or more than a new motor except in the very large sizes.

Last re-wind I had done (2 years ago) cost me £160 for cash on a motor of around 1/4 HP. Was only worth doing because the motor was such an unusual spec. and not easily replaced.

Hello all,

not of any use to Parm, but I recently found that buying a new stator from the manufacturer was much less than the cost of a rewind. Worth checking if you have a defective motor.

I don't think it's anything special, and was just being a tight git to see if I can get it going on the cheap.

Best price for a similar spec motor is around the £90 mark. If I have to spend this amount of money then I'm inclined to put in a bit more and buy a whole new saw

Anyone know what size/capacity washing machine motors are?

Why not try rewinding it yourself? Unless it's gigantic or very small it's not a difficult job, just fiddly and time consuming.

We use banbury rewinds in Brackley for motors they are pretty good but as said before it may be cheaper to buy a replacement! Br phone no 01280 704488 hope this helps!

1/10th hp seems very small for a power saw? I think I would look for a more powerful s/hand replacement.

If it's only 1/10HP, you could probably use a sewing machine motor on that. That must be a model making size saw if it only has that size of motor on it?

diy rewinds are tricky. i tryed it once thinking how hard chould it be. the finished product sort of worked.... well it went round it also got hot and tested fuses

Ok bit of an update, I've spoken to Banbury rewinds, starting cost is 140 beer tokens plus the usual vodka and tonic. I've now done some more homework and get much a much more powerfull single phase motor for around 70 tokens, so it's a bit of a no brainer realy
