Mot time... Exhaust?

Noticed my exhaust is starting to blow, just before mot time. It is a Mazda 6 GH 2009 2L petrol.

Hands over both silencers and I can see gas leaking at the rear Y splitter. Thats not to say thats the only part failing.. part looks as so:

I've not done a link pipe before, hopefully a bit easier than downpipes! I'd be using a jack and axle stands, so not ideal..
I have some time this week, should I do it myself?

Ebay has 15% off at the moment, so save a bit with this one

I imagine if I let a garage do it, will be £300+.. but if I dont, they will likely find something else, as they do...

Do you have an electric glue gun? (Mig - gas flavour)

they arent too difficult, did one on my 6 a few years ago. be prepeared to cull all nuts/bolts and replace with new stainless ones and the job gets done a lot quicker...

failing that, wrap the leaking area with a few 20's and call it a day

Welding a rotten exhaust is widely considered a waste of time, no? If one bits rotten, the rest wont be far behind, it is a 17 year old car.. no problem replacing it,

As I am light on work at the moment, do it myself?

I used to bodge up exhausts when I was skint and time was cheap. These days only if I have suitable bit of pipe to weld in rather than to chase holes.
