IM repairing a Golf MK2 which has a rust hole in the passenger sill and drivers floor.
I want to weld patches over the holes but need to know what the MOT tester will allow.
My plan is to grind out the rust to solid metal and then fabricate a patch from 1 mm sheet steel.
Can the repair patch be larger than the hole its covering or must it fit inside the hole? If larger then it will stand proud of the existing bodywork, but IM not too worried about cosmetics.
IM planning to weld the repair section all around all the edges to the existing bodywork, thereby ensuring maximum strength.
Is this acceptable for MOT purposes?
